Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on…

If at some point we all succumb
For goodness sake, let us be young
‘Cause time gets harder to outrun
And I’m nobody, I’m not done

With a cool, cool breeze and dirty knees
I rest on childhood memories
We all got old at breakneck speed
Slow it down, go easy on me, go easy on me

Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on
Grow your hair out long, come on, come
Put a T-shirt on
Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong

If it’s up and after you
What do you suppose that you would do?
You’re all whacked out from lack of sleep
You blame it on the friends you keep

If you want to do things differently
Go, do them independently
We all got old at breakneck speed
Slow it down, go easy on me, go easy on me

Put a wetsuit on, come on, come on
Grow your hair out long, come on, come
Put a T-shirt on
Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong

–The Vaccines, ‘Wetsuit’

Clearly the Vaccines never intended this song to be a family anthem, but it almost perfectly encapsulates the spirit of this year away for us. It’s become a theme song around our house. Even Marlow can sing a few lines.

  1. Such carefree spirit to these photos … and the lyrics seem ideally suited to you guys!
Michael very kindly replied to my email about your birthday bunting; may I ask if you have a book recommendation for us mamas, please? Have a lovely weekend xx

  2. Hi Courtney, very much enjoying your pictures and the lovely accounts of the different places you are visiting. It looks like you are having a marvellous time away! I’m just wondering, did you pack wetsuits for each family member or is this something you can hire in the different countries you visited? I’m curious as they are bulky and could imagine they would take a lot of space in a suitcase! We are planning to travel overseas with children in the future (my husband wants to go to South America!) and this would be so helpful to know.

All the best to you and your beautiful family from hot and sunny Aus!

    • Hi Evelyn,
Thanks for your kind words, and how exciting that you’re planning to travel overseas with your children! It’s really the best decision we ever made!
Regarding wet suits – we ended up buying them in Uruguay because we figured we would end up spending so much money to rent them in Uruguay and Chile. We have been packing them up in the surf board bag, which is another thing we bought – but again, it was cheaper to buy than to rent.
You CAN rent wetsuits and boards and it was definitely cheaper to do so in Chile than it was in Uruguay. I would rent them, depending on how long you plan to travel.
      I hope this helps!
Thanks again for leaving a comment. xx
