Every summer, photographer Sara Welch comes over to my dad’s farm — the place where I grew up — and snaps photos of our family in this wonderful, familiar place. She always pops by in the evening, snaps photos super quickly and leaves before we even realise we just had a little photoshoot. So easy!

I love that she captures my children playing and foraging in the same place I spent my childhood — on the same swings, picking carrots and blackberries in the same garden, and running around freely in such a wide open space.  And I love that I have photos from the past five years to document their growth each summer. (Here are last year’s photos for comparison. Wow have the kids changed — especially the boys!!).

Usually Michael is in London when Sara comes to snap photos, but this year, for the first time, Michael was here with us.  I love these photos of the six of us. (I also asked Sara to snap a few photos of a brand new baby growing inside. Next year there will be seven of us in these photos!)

  1. Beautiful picture!!! Such a talented photographer! Just looked at last years too, wow all four children have grown so much. Last year you wrote about each child’s personality, be lovely if you could write about each one again, to see if their personalities have changed from a year travelling the world🌍
    Thank you
    Andrea xx

  2. Lovely family, lovely pictures, a perfect website and an amazing trip + the most wonderful future ahead. I just love your site (your Instagram account as well) and your family. Thank you for all the work you do to let us follow your exciting journey. Greetings from Frankfurt, Germany.

  3. These are beautiful pictures! I absolutely love to see your beautiful family growing and evolving every year. These photos will definitely be memorable for the six (soon to be seven) of you!

    Charlotte 🙂

  4. Courtney, these pictures are so, so sweet. Congratulations to all of you! This baby will be, and already is, so blessed to have such lovely siblings and wonderful parents.

I am only 23 and childless, but I follow you since Marlow’s birth and I’ve always looked up to you as a professional and mama. Now I am waiting for this entire chapter with excitement.🙂

    Warmest wishes, Maria
PS. I love what Andrea said about last year’s post on the children’s personalities!

  5. wow..what a wonderful diary of photos to keep. Just imagine when the children are older and they look through these images and all the ones before (and the ones to come). She really captures some natural moments. I photograph my children daily, but I recently realised I have such few images of me with my children – a few selfies, but not natural moments. As well as my own thoughts, these pictures too have inspired me to get in front of the camera for a change!

  6. Sara is amazing and there is no place like Papa’s farm. I love seeing these every year and love watching the changes in all of you. No matter where life takes you 7, you can always know that your childhood home is waiting for you, right where you left it. It is a true blessing to know and love you and be a part of your journey. Thanks for sharing, friend. XOXO

  7. congratulations on the new baby! what a blessing. I’ve loved following along with your journeys around the world, and am furiously taking notes for the day when I can do the same with my family.

  8. These photos are stunning! And congratulations on #5! Courtney- your dress is so gorgeous… Can you share where it is from?

  9. Ok, these are so earthy and the colors are gorgeous–of the clothes and the landscape alike. And it doesn’t hurt that all six of you are just gorgeous people! A big congratulations on your pregnancy!

  10. Dear Courtney
These pictures are so lovely and it’s such a lovely tradition for your family. I also wanted to congratulate you on your wonderful news.
I’ve just caught up with your blog having left off just after your visit to St Ives (my home town). After a long held desire to travel the world as a family, your writing has inspired us and was further reinforced by your husbands response to my email. We have today paid the deposit on our flights for ‘our big holiday’-it just got real!. Our family of 5 fly to Vancouver next year on July 23rd to begin 12 months visiting 6 continents and 22 countries. I would like to thank you and your family for giving us the confidence to take that final leap of faith-we’re excited beyond words.
Best wishes and so happy to hear your enjoying the experience.

    • Dear Jaime-Lee,
This is such wonderful news! I am so thrilled for you and your family. What adventure and discoveries lie ahead for you all! It will be the most incredible year of your lives and one that will be so filled with memories you will cherish forever. Congratulations on taking the leap. Now enjoy the planning and exciting build-up over the coming months, and let me know if you have any questions at all!
      xx
